There may be some confusion when a work camper spelled with a 'c' camp host may be referred to as a workamper spelled with a 'k'. Prevailing opinion is: a work camper is a camp host volunteer, and a camp host volunteer should not be called a workamper because the definition of a volunteer is strongly related to the word 'play' which is defined: 'work that is performed without pay', this understood... a camp host work camper volunteer is contracted by the government or some other non-profit organization and the job description classification is volunteer camp host. Where as: the camp host-workamper (note spelling) is usually contracted by a private enterprise and is paid a stipend or a negotiated wage on top of the so-called 'free campsite' usually a requirement provided by a mutual agreement contract between the workamper camp host and the volunteer camp host alike, with the employer. Camp Host Member Tip:
Sending your resume with your first inquiry might not help but, it can't hurt. Not mentioning being a single would not work in your favor. It's misleading, and they're going to find out anyhow. Unfortunately for singles, many employers like to use couples as an economy move, since they are providing a site and utilities to two employees instead of one. Conversely, there seem to be many employers who do not mind hiring singles... or at least the ads often say "individual or couple". Most employers will expect whomever they hire to work a complete season, as mid-season replacements are inconvenient and often difficult to find. Don't let your experience to this point discourage you. If you persevere you will find your niche. Some of the key things in getting that first camp host position are flexibility (about the type of job and location), a good resume with photos of you and your rig, and a very positive attitude in any and all communications with employers.
